An example of the problem with the mindset in detroit.

BLITZER: All right. So what do you say about the argument that the Japanese, the Germans, Koreans make better cars than the Americans?

NARDELLI: Wolf, here’s what we’ve done. You know, since august when we became independent. We spent about half a billion dollars in the first several months. Our warranty costs are down 29 percent. It’s an interesting comparison because in the hearing today, going around the panel, the majority of the Senators said that citing specific vehicles that they own that they’ve got 60, 70, 80,000 miles. The comment was you guys are making them too good and therefore, we’re not buying vehicles and we’re contributing to your problem. That was from the Senators on the committee today. On the panel today, Wolf.

News flash for the folks in Detroit, and (apparently) also our Senators…. Getting 60K miles on a car without a major issue is *not* the pinnacle of great engineering and production quality… I know that the car makers would *love* us if we replaced our rides every 3-4 years, but seriously, who can afford that these days?

My almost nine-year old honda currently has right around 120K on the odometer…. and do you know how many actual mechanical issues I’ve had that weren’t the result of an accident or outside influence? Maybe 3 that I can think of. Bad power window motor (I smoke, so the driver window is up down, up down, alot while I drive, so surprise thats the one that broke), broken seat rail (my fat ass broke it, Japanese great on workmanship, not so hot on design for fatasses)… and something else that I can’t think of… but not a single ignition coil, not a single case of “Oh look, the transmission wont go past 2nd gear”… both of which I had the joy of experiencing (and neither was cheap to fix) with my proudly made in america Dodge product… (which technically burned through *three* coils while I had it… it ate them like they were candy) which I owned and drove for… half the amount of time that I’ve had the Honda?

Seriously? Detroit thinks the problem is that their cars are *TOO WELL MADE*…. your kidding me, right?

Holy Shit, is dat sum Drupal already?

Yes. Yes it is.

I wish I had something witty, or funny ha ha to put here as the first real update with Drupal.. but figuring out how to carry over all the updates/comments from WordPress has made my head hurt. So be gentle and hopefully in a few days I’ll have some new things start popping up in here.

Or maybe not just yet.

Alright. Here’s the deal. I’ve decided that I’m abandoning wordpress and moving the site over to Drupal. Why? Because I’ve got a couple of things I want to do around here, and Drupal will let me do them. WordPress is all well and fine for a blog.. but when you want to expand to more then just a blog, you start running into problems.

So I’m holding off on implementing my “post a day” idea until *after* I get drupal up and running. Hopefully this will only take a week or so for a decent beginning. (First I have to figure out how to get all the current content imported into Drupal, and then I have to figure out a look for it).

So that’s why the “post a day” thing fell by the wayside. It will happen, just not yet. 🙁

Great American Smokeout 2008

So today is the Great American Smokeout. Great. Only nobody thought to tell me until I heard it on the radio this morning, and I’d already blown it before then. Oh well, maybe next year, right?

Seriously, the whole smoking thing… I know I need to quit, everyone knows they need to quit.. it’s just such a pain in the ass… ~sigh~

Tom Daschle to head Health and Human Services?

So the story is that Tom Daschle, former Senator from South Dakota, is being tapped to head up the department of health and human services. Not sure how I feel about this one myself, although on the one hand, I have to admit, he can’t be *that* bad of a choice, I don’t recall any major scandals that involved him from recent memory.

Trying something different around these parts…

Over the next few days I’m going to try something a little different for LTB, and see how I like it. I’m going to try and *actually update regularly*. I know, I know, no way you say! No, it’s true. Each day I’m going to try and grab atleast a few little things worty of updating about. Not sure how it’s going to work just yet, but we’re going to try it and see. ~shrug~

The Great Gig In The Sky

“And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I
don’t mind. Why should I be frightened of dying?
There’s no reason for it, you’ve gotta go sometime.
I never said I was frightened of dying.”
— Pink Floyd

Richard White passed away today. Sadly, most people (even many Floyd fans) will be going “Who?”cause, well, he wasn’t as well known as Roger.. But still, he wrote Us & Them, so he has to be missed for that, if nothing else. 🙁

Dammit, stop being so vague

Dear Me,

In the future, when something is weighing heavily on your mind, such as it does from time to time, don’t be so fucking vague. There may come a time when you need to remember exactly what it was that was bothering you at that time, and such vagueness does not lend itself well to the remembering of specifics of an event over two years later, even funny vagueness. Seriously, it’s f-ing useless to me now; dammit man, I get it, you’re vague because others can see, and thus you need to be vague, but now, you’d probably feel quite a bit better if you could remember exactly what the fuck the situation was now, and what sparked it, wouldn’t you? And you sure as shit can’t ask anyone else, can you? No. So in the future, don’t be so fucking vague with your thoughts.

Or atleast, even if you have to be vague publicly, find a way to leave details for yourself, so you can remember what the hell it was about later, if the need arises. Christ, last time I checked, you were the damn tech genius here, you mean to tell me you couldn’t have found an easy way to hide a real entry up in this bitch of a website with some details, facts, or just the real conspiracy theories, and not a fucking alien cover story? What the hell good does *that* do two years later. If you had, maybe we’d be getting some damn sleep tonight, but no, look at us, sitting here trying to remember just what the hell the deal was….. arrrgggh.
